A Federal High Court, sitting in Lagos, Friday, adjourned hearing in a suit seeking to disqualify the Vice-Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Yemi Osinbajo, from the Nigerian 2015 presidential election.
The suit was instituted by one Adebayo Adeyiba on Thursday.
In the suit No FHC/CS/L/389/2015, Mr. Adeyiba claimed that Mr. Osinbajo is in contempt of a court case pending in a Lagos High Court and therefore should be barred from contesting the election
On Friday, the ex-parte motion praying to have Mr. Osinbajo’s name deleted from the ballot came up for hearing but neither the plaintiff nor his lawyer was in court.
Mr. Osinbajo, said to have got wind of the case Thursday night, was represented in court by a team of lawyers including four Senior Advocates of Nigeria, namely Femi Atoyebi, Femi Falana, Kola Awodein and Charles Edosonwam.
As the plaintiff’s lawyer was not in court the trial judge, Justice J. C. Aneke, adjourned the case to March 30, 2015.
On Wednesday, a consolidated suit seeking the disqualification of the APC presidential flagbearer, Muhammadu Buhari, was also adjourned to April 26, 2015.
About 10 persons, believed to be supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan, are challenging Mr. Buhari’s eligibility to contest the presidential poll on the ground of his academic qualification.
Mr. Buhari’s old school, Government School, Katsina, formerly Provincial Secondary School, Katsina, had released details of his West African Certificate Examination results..
