It was definitely an eventful year in the Nigerian entertainment scene. While a lot of celebrities did us proud back home and abroad, a few others didn't just quite get the memo.

5 Ways to Stay Young and Fit

Unfortunately, staying active is a lifestyle that we as a population have grown out of. But you can regain this commitment by following these five rules.

Break a sweat every day

Challenge yourself every day to participate in a physical activity that causes you to get out of breath or sweat. To change your body, you must train outside of your comfort zone. If you like your body the way it is, then don't stress it. But if you want to build strength, get a six-pack or lose fat, then work hard.
When exercising, you should not be able to carry on a conversation with your buddy. (Don't get me started on people reading a magazine on the treadmill.) Next time you're at the gym:

Increase your weights
Hit the incline on your treadmill or run hills
Add a plyometrics workout
Combine strength training with various rounds of conditioning; for example, perform a Overhead Shoulder Press, then sprint on a treadmill at nine mph on a six-inch incline for 30 seconds. Rest for 90 seconds and repeat four times.

Firstly, we’d like to say before we go on that this is in no way an argument or a statement of facts. We understand the reasoning dynamics of the beings of our generation and we are not inclined to thrash out issues with anyone. This is just an expression of our thoughts on the subject matter and as such no argument is required. Thank you.
Now to more important issues.
Well, what the youth of today supposedly “blow” their minds with is taking nude pictures of themselves and some even go as far as sending them to people. In my humble opinion, taking/sending nudes is relative. What do I mean by that, right? Well, a simple explanation to that would be “One man’s food, is another man’s poison”. Meaning that everything means different things to different people. Interpretation of thoughts, gestures and actions basically boils down to individuality or the individual in question. Now, different people take pictures of themselves nude for different reasons. Some to view their body from another perspective (the camera in this case), some to show other people the sexiness (or scariness) or awesomeness of God as far as their physical body is concerned and other depraved (or not so depraved) reasons. Some even take such pictures to spite other people. Some even go to the extent of taking these (mostly inglorious) pictures to fit in or appeal to a certain person or set of people, as the case may be. Now that being said, there comes the question of the moral justification of this act.
Is this just for fun or an act to prove that you’re mature? and if it is, how mature do you think the boy/girl you’re sending it to is? If, you are the sending type.
Thanks to social networks, someone’s naked body is no longer a sacred thing. The new rave, on twitter especially, is twitpic-ing nudes of friends turned foes or anybody else. Let’s not forget that every human being has a right to privacy and frankly speaking no one REALLY cares about what you do in your spare time. We just need something to talk about when we are bored, mostly. So taking nudes isn’t precisely a bad thing to do. I mean, it’s your body, your phone (or whatever people use, to take these pictures), your mirror (for those of you who just can’t get enough) etc. If that is right, then the moral question only comes as per what you do with the picture

The Chairman, Ido local government of Oyo state, Professor Joseph Adeniyi Olowofela, in company of the police, SSS and members of the Defence Corp on Sunday recovered the flying object which fell on the roof of a resident of Awotan in the local government.
The Chairman described a media report that an object crashed into the home of a resident as very unfortunate and misleading.
Prof Olowofela also frowned at the report and its writers intention, saying there was nothing like a crash as reported, and that it was untrue that the US used the object as a spy .

The Nigeria Police Force is to spend a whopping N125, 629,606 million on its dogs in 2014.

The amount is contained in the Police budget proposal submitted to the National Assembly by President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja last week. The presentation was made on his behalf by his Minister for Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Read more after the cut...

The budget for the dogs is part of the N292,351,812,085 billion budgeted for the police for the year.

A breakdown of the proposal shows that Construction of Force Headquarters (FHQ) dog section barrack offices and kernels will cost N60,081,151m while the Development of Police Veterinary dogs breeding centre, also at the FHQ, Abuja will cost N29, 544,748m

Iyetade Soyinka, a daughter of Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, has died. Ms. Soyinka, who was born June 6, 1965, died at the University of Ibadan Teaching Hospital where she was being treated for an undisclosed ailment.

The death was disclosed in a statement signed by Jahman Anikulapo, an aide to Mr. Soyinka, one of the world’s foremost dramatists and winner of the 1986 Nobel Prize in literature. The statement noted that the late Iyetade Soyinka was a student at the Staff School and Queens School, Ibadan before she studied Medicine at the University of Ibadan. Read more after the cut...

Mr. Anikulapo’s statement described the deceased as “affable, intelligent and sometimes capricious,” adding that she “struggled with her health in recent years.” Despite her health woes, the late Iyetade Soyinka “greeted every day with a smile and doted on her two children.”

The statement, which was issued on behalf of the deceased’s family, revealed that Ms. Soyinka “took ill quite suddenly and passed away while being treated at UCH, Ibadan.

“Iyetade leaves behind two children, both parents, numerous siblings, nieces and nephews.”

No funeral arrangements were announced in the statement. SaharaReporters was unable to reach Professor Soyinka before press time.

A teenager who was bullied as a child after an agonising spine condition left her with a hunchback and severe limp has landed a job as a catwalk model.
Zoe Blenkinsop, 19, from North Shields, Tyne and Wear, has suffered with scoliosis since childhood and was bullied throughout school because she had a lump which protruded from her back where her spine curved.
She would spend hours practicing her poses and catwalk runs but struggled as her curved spine, which left her with a limp, shattered her confidence. After her surgery, Zoe had to learn to walk and stand again. She says it was sometimes so painful it caused her to pass out but that she kept going as she wanted to fulfil her dream of becoming a model

‘I never allowed anyone to take pictures of me because I didn’t want them to see it.
‘In PE I would hide in a corner to get changed so that no-one saw it as I was already being bullied.
‘When I was told I could have the operation I was so happy but I knew I had to wait a long time for it.’

In July 2011 Zoe was finally able to go ahead with the procedure and was in surgery for seven hours while surgeons fitted metal rods to straighten her spine.

Zoe is now able to fulfil her dream of modelling and is no longer worried about what others think of her.

IK Ogbonna: I Wish I Could Marry All The Girls In The World

Nollywood actor/model IK Ogbonna has paid a big price for being such a handsome guy. Recently there was an allegation that his recent trip to the US was to satisfy the sexual urge of his female customers as a gigolo and homosexual.
