Thugs steal ballot papers /Nigeria soldiers disperse voters in Nasarawa

Pandemonium broke out at a polling unit by Sharp Corner in Mararaba, Nasarawa State on Saturday as some hoodlums snatched ballot papers meant for the over 3,000 eligible voters who were waiting to perform their civic duty after accreditation.

The incident occurred at about 6pm and it took the intervention of soldiers, whose checkpoint was about 50 metres away, to restore order.

The soldiers, who were about 15 in number, dispersed the angry crowd using horsewhip and sticks.

Before the arrival of the soldiers, many of the voters had grown impatient due to the slow pace of accreditation, which lasted till about 5pm.

As the polling officers were preparing to commence voting, one of the hoodlums snatched a bundle of ballot papers from the polling officer and the others followed suit.
